Christmas Lunch 2018

It was a record turn-out for our (early) Christmas Lunch, held on 28 November 2018 –  we had 55 intrepid adventurers who were prepared to be waited on, and fed by, a men-only team.

The feast was under the direction of head-chef Andrew, who in a moment of weakness at a hall management meeting had offered to ‘do a simple casserole’ for the pre-Christmas lunch, and was then later persuaded that people would prefer something more seasonal…

And before he knew it, the meal had evolved to salmon and asparagus starter (thanks to Philip for this), followed by turkey with pork in blankets, roast parsnips, roast potatoes, carrots, bread sauce and gravy, followed by a choice of desserts (thanks to John K for taking the lead on this), followed by Ian going around unsuccessfully asking if anyone wanted Cranberry Sauce (it got forgotten!), followed by cheese and biscuits (thanks Pete), and tea and coffee.

The team of men came from across the parish and beyond (and included one who travelled 250 miles for this! – it was lovely to see you again David), and together they laid the tables, cooked, served, cleared up and washed up.

And it turned out OK.  More than OK.  It was great food, lovely atmosphere – well done to Andrew and his merry team!

Thanks to our photographers…  and thanks also to our friends who kindly donated wine to accompany the meal.
