“BIG – Church Fete – DO” 2017

The weather stayed fair as everyone enjoyed the various events (flyball display, dog show, children’s races, puppet show), along with the barbecue, cream teas, licensed bar, raffle, bottle stall, tombola, the special antiques stall, welly wanging, Smite, guess the weight, and bouncy castle – plus a few ‘pop-up’ stalls set up by young enthusiasts…

Congratulations to our winners: best dog in the show, Sharna (accompanied by Jean P); welly wanging champions Ellen (junior), Julie R (women) and Zak H (men); Matt C for Smite; and Liz C for guess-the-weight-of-cake.

With the original BigDo hit by rain in July, it had been decided that the Big Do would link up with the Church Fete that was to be held in the church field a few weeks later. The combined event (with all profits split between church and hall) was held on Saturday 19 August in the field opposite the Jubilee Hall in Mount, with thanks to Geoff for making the field again available.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this day a success – not just those individuals and institutions who donated prizes (Asda*, Bodmin Wenford Railway, Rogers, Tragos*, Village Greens, (more to be confirmed and added), but also our flyball display team (Kernow Kys Flyball club*), and all those who helped set up, run and/or clear up – and of course all of you who came to the event.

Over a thousand pounds was raised on this day – yielding over £500 each to the hall and church. This is on top of the over £400 raised for the hall at the duck race and flower show – so a big thanks to everyone who dug deep in their pockets!
