It was perfect July weather for this year’s Big Do in the Field, and many from the parish and from outside came to meet up, relax and enjoy what was on offer – the children’s fancy dress, children’s races, the ever popular family dog show – plus an surprise appearance from a young break-dancer. Tasty fare was offered at the barbecue tent, and the cream teas stall.  There was face painting, guess the number of sweets, and a raffle, while in the yurt youngsters would try out some crafts; there was the ever popular welly wanging, and for the first time we had the table tennis table out, and a swing ball game.  Plus car boots and other stalls.  All around were photos of knees;  and many were seen trying to work out which knees belonged to which person.
Lots of wonderful prizes were to be won  –  and we’d like to thanks Bricknells for their contribution to the children’s fancy dress prizes, Rogers for the prizes for the children’s races. Thanks, too, to all those who contributed to the raffle  – both the individuals who donated and those from (in alphabetical order) Bodmin and Wenford Railway, Carnglaze Caverns, Celtic Produce, the London Inn (St Neot), Morrisons, Tragos and Village Greens.  Thanks also to all our judges, both for the show in the hall and the events in the field.
There was tough competition in the annual flower / veg / craft show in the hall, and although the number of exhibits was a bit down on last year (due largely to the weather we’ve had, one suspects), there were still some impressive items on show.
Thanks as ever to Geoff for the use of his field, to John for his MC-work, to the Coxes for the loan of their yurt, to Zack and Ajay and all the others who helped in helping get the Big Do set up before, and cleared up afterwards…  Indeed, so many helped, it’s hardly fair to list their names.
